Driver Bio – Nick Thompson
Nick has been circuit racing since 2006, graduating from speed hill climbing, which he began back in 1994. Over the years, much of his circuit experience has come at the wheel of a Chevron B6 sports racing car, alongside seasons in an Elva Mk7S and a stint in a Lotus Elan GTS.
For the national championship, Nick’s weapon of choice is a 1963 MGB, built to full FIA Appendix K specification. Since 2021, he has shared the car with his son Chris — creating a true family racing partnership.
Nick names Oulton Park as his favourite UK circuit, with Brands Hatch GP a close second. Choosing a favourite driver is a tougher task, but Derek Bell just edges it as a fantastic all-rounder. When it comes to biscuits, however, there’s no hesitation — a plain chocolate digestive wins every time.
Driver Bio – Chris Thompson
Chris is a relative newcomer to circuit racing, making his debut in the family MGB in 2021. By his third season, he was consistently getting the better of his dad — much to Nick’s amusement (and occasional frustration!).
Away from the championship, Chris is a regular endurance kart racer and manages a corporate kart team of nearly 60 drivers, competing across the UK. The 2026 season will see him take on five 24-hour kart races at Silverstone, Teesside, Le Mans, Spa and Milton Keynes — a serious test of stamina and focus.
Chris lists Snetterton and Silverstone among his favourite circuits and admires professional drivers with exceptional mental strength and racecraft, including Vettel, Alonso and Verstappen. Although, as Nick insists on adding — dad still trumps them all!
A dedicated fitness enthusiast, Chris claims not to have a favourite biscuit — which works out well, as Nick is more than happy to eat them instead.
