Silverstone Review – The 2026 Equipe Historic Championship Begins
A Thrilling Start to the 2026 Equipe Historic Championship
What a way to launch the inaugural Equipe Historic Championship. Round 1 at Silverstone’s International Circuit delivered everything we hoped for — a stunning grid, exceptional racing, and the unmistakable Equipe paddock atmosphere that sets this championship apart.
From the outset, the field showcased the very best of historic motorsport. The one-hour race saw the AC Cobras of Brian and John Caudwell lead the charge, with Brian taking control early and fending off strong pressure from Stuart Hall’s Lotus Elan 26R. As the race unfolded, strategy and consistency came into play, with John Caudwell recovering brilliantly through the field to secure second place, while John Dickson completed the podium after taking over from Hall.
At the front, the pace was relentless — the top three finishing as the only cars on the lead lap, underlining the competitive edge of this new championship.
Across the classes, the depth of talent was equally impressive. Pim Remjin claimed fourth overall and class honours, while Chris Ryan delivered a standout performance in his TVR Grantura to take fifth overall and top spot in class three. One of the highlights of the race came in class four, where a thrilling battle between Mike Thorne and Richard Hywel-Evans kept spectators entertained throughout, with Thorne ultimately taking the win despite a dramatic mid-race lock-up.
Reflecting on the race, overall winner Brian Caudwell commented:
“In the early stages the Elans were going well. I kept ahead once we had the tyres up to temperature — pleased to take the first win in this series, especially as the tyres were starting to go off towards the end.”
Most importantly, it was fantastic to see such strong support for this new championship. The enthusiasm, the quality of the grid, and the spirit in the paddock all point towards an exciting future.
This is just the beginning — and we’re committed to growing the Equipe Historic Championship into a long-standing fixture of the British motorsport scene.
